What science ideas did you learn?

This week in science class we learned a little more about respiration and photosynthesis. We also learned more about chloroplast and mitochondria, and what they are. Then we learned about products and reactants. Another thing we did was draw a picture of a plant cell and discuss the parts and what they do. Something new we discussed was DNA. We did an experiment and the next day we saw the results. That helped us understand more about DNA.

How did you learn these ideas?

We learned these ideas in many ways. One way was by class discussions. That helped us understand everything more because we got to all say our ideas and ask each other questions. Another way we learned our ideas were from homework's. That shows us what we know and then we talk about it in class. He then explains it to us. Also another thing we do that is helpful, is do experiments. This allows us to see the results to what happened.

Why is it important to know these ideas?

It is important to know these ideas because if it is on a quiz or a test. Also if you want to become a doctor or something that involves knowing this, like a teacher its good to know. Its also good to know because in the future it might come up and it will be helpful to know. We even understand it more when we discuss, do homework, and experiments.

What science ideas did you learn?

This week in science class we talked and learned about photosynthesis and respiration. We made flow charts and talked about what we wrote. For respiration, we wrote what we inhale and exhale. We called it the starting stuff, and the ending. We even did an experiment. What we did, was inhale into a jar, then with a machine thing we found out how much oxygen was in it. Another thing we did this week, was learn more about O2,H2O, CO2 and what they are. We also learned how much of that goes in respiration, and how much comes out.

How do you learn these ideas?

One way we learned some of our ideas from was homework. For example, our homework was to create a flow chart for photosynthesis and respiration. That made us do research and it gave us a better idea on what it was. Then the next day we discussed about it. Discussion is another way we learn our ideas. This is how we learned more about O2,H2O,CO2.

Why is it important to know these ideas?

It is important to know about the things we learned in class because it might show up in the future. For example, knowing about respiration, and it is important to know what else does and how. Also, if your job in the future has something to do with being a science teacher or a scientist it's important to know. Also, it's a good thong to know important facts because the questions might come up in the older grades.

What science ideas did you learn?

This week in science we continued to learn about cells. We learned about a paramecium cell. We learned that it is an animal cell and not a plant cell. We talked about how it move and discussed about it with the class. Another thing we did with the paramecium, was look at it under a microscope because we found it in pond water. We observed it then drew what we saw under high and low magnification. Another thing we did this week was talk about the structures of a cell.

How did you learn these ideas?

We learned these ideas in many ways. One way we learned about paramecium cells was from homework. We did some research and answered a couple of questions. We also talked in class and did an experiment. That helped us a little more. Also, we learned more about the structure of cell and a way we learned more about this was getting quizzed on it. The quiz helped understand it more.

Why is it important to know these ideas?

It is important to know about paramecium cells, the structure of cells, etc because when your doing and experiment you want to know what your talking about. Also if you are taking a quiz you would need to know these things. For example, when we took a quiz on structures of cells, we needed to know where they were located on the cell. If we never learned or talked about it, you wouldn't have gotten such a good grade.

What science ideas did you learn?

This week in science class we learned and discussed a little bit about cells. We started to make a chart during class, that listed the structure and function. Then we wrote if it was used only for animals, plants, or both. Another thing we did this week was, using the microscope to see cells. We tested a potato, a potato with metholine (blue stain), a potato with lugo, a potato with water, and grass that was in water. We observed them and wrote down what we saw.

How did we learn these idea?

One way we learned these ideas were from class discussions. For example when we reviewed parts of cells and what they did. That helped us understand a little more about what cells do and why they are important. We also learned these ideas by experiments. We got to understand what cells look like. And to practice what the parts of a cell were called and what animal and plant cells looked like, we did that for homework. That's why homework can be useful, so it helps us learn these ideas.

Why is it important to know these ideas?

Its important to know what cells look like because there are a lot of different kinds. Also, its important to know that animal and plant cells have a lot of similar structures and functions. Its important to know this because if its on a test and it asks what are some different structures for animal cells and plant cells, then you would need to know. Also if you are comparing animal and plant cells, you would know that they are very alike and they're aren't a lot of things that are different. And it is also important to know about cells, for future references

What science ideas did you learn?

This week in science class we worked on the project to figure out what got all the kids sick, if it was the pond water or the chicken. We first practiced using a microscope and what the parts are called and do. We also practiced using a wet mount and a petri dish. Another thing we did was test chicken and pond water. We found that the chicken had a lot of bacteria and the pond water had some, but not as much as the chicken. We then decided to use the microscope and take a look at the pond water. We found things that were living and non- living, and we found out we can not see bacteria under a microscope.

How did we learn these ideas?

We learned these ideas in a couple of ways. One way was by taking a quiz to learn more about a microscope and the other was taking a quiz to practice using a wet mount. This helped us because if we wanted to use one of them, it was practice so we knew what we were doing. Another way we learned these ideas were from notes and class discussions.

Why is it important to learn these ideas?

It is important to know how to experiment using petri dishes, wet mounts, and microscope because if you want to test something and you need to use one, you will know how. Also knowing how and what the parts of a microscope do and are is important because if someone tells you to look through the eye piece or put something on the stage, you will be lost and have no idea what they are talking about. It is also important to know these ideas because if you are answering questions about your experiment, and you are not sure how to, then you could look at your experiment, and if you did everything good then you should be able to answer them correctly.

What science ideas did you learn?

This week in science class we learned about the structure and function of a cell. We learned that they have DNA, they are made up of cells, convert agar into energy, and need energy. We also learned that they are non-living. Another thing we did this week was work on our project, we had to write down what we wanted to test, to find more information on how they got sick. We could use a petri dish to experiment or we could use something else we learned this week, called a wet mount.

How did you learn these ideas?

One way we learned these ideas were from homework and class discussion. Learning about what a cell is and the structures was a homework assignment, but the next day we talked about it in class. We also wrote a list of the structure and function of a cell in class. For how to use a petri dish and a wet mount, Mr. Finley showed us in a group.

Why is it important to know this idea?

It is important to know how to use a petri dish and wet mount. Its important to know because if you are doing an experiment or would like to test something in the future for school and you need to know it could be helpful. Its also helpful right now because, to test things for our project we need to know.

What science ideas did you learn?
This week in science class we learned a little more about a project we work on last week. For this project we had to figure out why so many kids were out from school. This week we found out the restaurants they ate at and which ones they got sick at. Then we wrote our observations and made a hypothesis. We also learned what a petri dish was and how to use it. Another thing we did this week was learn about macroscopic, microscopic, and sub-microscopic and what they are.

How did you learn these ideas?
We learned these ideas in many different way. For the project, were we had to find out where the students got sick, we looked at the results and made a hypothesis. That gave us an idea were the student may have gotten sick. Also, to learn more about petri dishes, we went to the bathroom and got a swab. After that we rubbed the swab against something we thought had a lot of bacteria or, then something that didn't have so much bacteria. Then we divided the petri dish into two parts and rubbed the swab with the bacteria on one side of the petri dish and the swab with no bacteria on the other side. We learned then when rubbing the swab you must be very careful.

Why is it important to know this idea?

It is important to know these ideas because when we had to look at the results from the restaurants we practiced making an observation and hypothesis. Even knowing how to use a petri dish is important. It is important because if you want to test something else, you would need to know how to use one.
